Fast Elegant Image Rendering

This discussion is open for talk on how to provide fast, elegant, crisp and clean image rendering of geometric data. Keeping in mind that an SQL server will probably not have DirectX installed (eliminates WPF). In future relases the distributed render engine will utilize cheaper hardware, and possibly cloud services to generate tiles.

Hi Cadaceus

any progress on this project? Its pretty interesting, and on http://deepearth.codeplex.com  we're currently tiling out from a ( SQL server - WMS - JobQueue - TileHandler -  Bing maps client) architecture. Ie the silverlight client pans over an area, tilehandler checks for existing tiles, if doesn't exist, then queues requests for hit the WMS (sitting in front of SQL server).

We use this to add display performance to large vector datasets (eg land parcel boundaries).  Its interesting to SSTRE because a direction I'd like to see it head in is distributed/cloud services to generate tiles.

Would be much cleaner to have the server return tiles as suggested though.

thanks,Geoff
